Maximum Reliability at Minimum Cost
35 years of hands-on experience in maintenance, reliability, and asset management — from firefighting to predictable, systematic performance.
Martin van den Hout
Since 1989, I have helped technical organizations transform their maintenance operations from reactive firefighting to systematic, predictable performance. Having worked both inside maintenance departments and as an independent consultant, I have learned that lasting improvement only comes from working methodically — one step at a time.
My approach combines practical field experience with proven methodologies. I have delivered in-company training programs across the Netherlands and Belgium, and contributed to the standard HBO-level textbook on maintenance management. The focus is always on practical solutions that produce measurable results — not elegant theories that stay on the shelf.
After 25 years as a consultant, I have distilled this knowledge into a complete 9-volume book series: The Reliability Framework. Each volume covers one essential area of integrated maintenance management, from workflow control to autonomous maintenance.
Nine Areas of Expertise
From integrated maintenance management to specialist disciplines — each area covered in depth with practical implementation guidance.
Maintenance Management
An integrated framework for systematic control of all maintenance processes and disciplines.
Planning and Scheduling
A nine-step process for optimal planning, execution, and evaluation of maintenance work.
Troubleshooting
A systematic approach to rapid diagnosis and effective resolution of technical failures.
Root Cause Analysis
Root cause analysis and preventive measures to structurally eliminate recurring failures.
Preventive Maintenance
RCM methodologies and pragmatic approaches for effective preventive maintenance programs.
Spare Parts Management
Optimizing stock levels and process control for maximum availability at minimum cost.
Precision Maintenance
Critical skills for reliable assembly of machine components and bearings using professional techniques.
Engineering for Reliability
Building reliability into assets from the design phase by systematically accounting for maintainability.
Autonomous Maintenance
Empowering operators to take responsibility for basic maintenance and minor repairs through cultural change.
